Tide (2018)

This is my graduation film, Tide, of which I was the director, lead animator and concept artist. Tide is a 5 minute long film created by a three person team, myself, and classmates, Sykki Gonh and Elizabeth Ng.

"No one can help you if you don't help yourself"

Tide is a film that explores the difficult topics of depression and anxiety. We hoped that the cathartic nature of this film would resonate with the audience encouraging them to talk about their own troubles or to reach out to people who may be experiencing it. The main message to take away from it was that human beings are social creatures and need to communicate and that a person should not have to suffer alone. We wanted to tell the audience that they did not and do not ever have to be a victim of their problems, there is always help for those who ask for it.

In the film, the character finds herself trapped in her mind as it is being ravaged by the effects of depression and anxiety. She must find a way to escape this and come back to her senses. Her future is still uncertain.

This is some of the concept art for the film. We wanted to have this general feel throughout the film, also included are some explanations of certain scenes that flash around during the film.
